EV Charger Installation FAQs | Infinity EV Chicago

Question 1

How much does Level 2 EV charger installation cost?

Accepted Answer

Installation costs vary based on your electrical panel, wiring distance, and property type. A standard residential installation typically ranges from $1,400–$3,000.00. Commercial and multi-unit properties may vary. Contact us for a free assessment and accurate quote.

Question 2

Do I need a panel upgrade for Level 2 charging?

Accepted Answer

Not always. Most modern homes (200-amp service) can accommodate a Level 2 charger without a panel upgrade. Our certified electricians will assess your panel during the free evaluation. If an upgrade is needed, we'll provide a clear quote upfront — no surprises.

Question 3

Which EV chargers are compatible with my vehicle?

Accepted Answer

All Level 2 chargers use the standard J1772 connector, which is compatible with every EV sold in the US — including Tesla (with the included adapter), Ford, GM, Rivian, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, and more. We are certified installers for Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, Autel MaxiCharger, Eaton EV Chargers, and other leading brands.

Question 4

How long does installation take?

Accepted Answer

Most residential installations are completed in 2–4 hours. Commercial and multi-unit installations vary based on scope. After your free assessment, we'll give you a precise timeline. We work around your schedule and aim to complete every job in a single visit.

Question 5

Are your electricians licensed and insured?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every installer on our team is fully licensed, bonded, and insured in Illinois. We only work with certified electricians who have dedicated EV charging expertise. You'll never get a general handyman — only a qualified EV charging professional.

Question 6

Can I install a Level 2 charger in a rented home or apartment?

Accepted Answer

In a single-family rental, you'll typically need landlord approval. For apartments, installation depends on your building's electrical infrastructure. Our team can help you navigate the process and even communicate with your landlord or property manager on your behalf.

Question 7

What's the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 charging?

Accepted Answer

Level 1 uses a standard 120V outlet and adds roughly 3–5 miles of range per hour — very slow for daily use. Level 2 uses a 240V circuit and adds 20–30+ miles per hour, meaning most EVs charge fully overnight. For any EV driver who charges at home, Level 2 is the practical standard.

Question 8

Can I install a charger in my garage or driveway?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We install chargers in attached garages, detached garages, carports, and outdoor driveways. Outdoor installations use weatherproof, UL-listed equipment rated for all climates. We'll recommend the right mounting location during your free assessment.

Question 9

Do you install chargers for businesses and office buildings?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We serve retail centers, office buildings, hotels, restaurants, fleet operators, and parking garages across Chicagoland. Commercial installations include load management systems to prevent electrical overload and maximize the number of charging stations per circuit.

Question 10

Can EV charging be a revenue stream for my business?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many of our commercial clients use networked chargers (ChargePoint, Autel) to charge customers per kWh or per session. We'll help you select the right hardware and network platform to turn your parking lot into a revenue-generating amenity.

Question 11

Do you handle permitting for commercial installations?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our team manages the full permitting process — electrical permits, inspections, and utility coordination — so you don't have to. We've completed commercial projects across Chicagoland and are familiar with local code requirements in DuPage, Cook, Kane, and Will counties.

Question 12

How does EV charging work in a condo or HOA community?

Accepted Answer

We specialize in multi-unit EV charging infrastructure. Options include individually metered chargers in assigned parking spaces, shared charging stations in common areas, and load management systems that distribute power across many units without requiring costly electrical upgrades.

Question 13

Can residents be billed individually for their charging usage?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We install smart, networked chargers that track each resident's energy usage and bill them directly — either through the charger's app or integrated into HOA billing. This keeps costs fair and transparent for every resident.

Question 14

Will adding EV chargers require a major electrical upgrade to the building?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. Our load management solutions are specifically designed to maximize charging capacity within your building's existing electrical infrastructure. We'll conduct a full electrical assessment and design a system that scales with your community's EV adoption over time.
